A massive congratulations to Annie Colgan (who is now an official PhD candidate!) for passing her general exam with flying colors!! We are so proud of her and everything she has accomplished!
A big congratulations to undergraduate students Stella Christopherson and Jovanna Talarico for their incredible poster titled “Building Plant-Pollinator Networks at Mount Rainier National Park: A Framework for Citizen-Science”. They presented the preliminary MeadoWatch pollinator data that they helped Madeleine collect at Mt Rainier this summer. Stella, Jovanna, Madeleine, and Manogya all attended, spending a lovely day learning more about the flora of Washington state and hearing about exciting ongoing local botanical research.
Congrats to Erica and Madeleine on their excellent lightning talks at this year’s North Coast and Cascades Science Days symposium. This was the second ever NCC science days and it was exciting to once again have Brosi Lab research represented! Erica’s talk “Uncovering the driving mechanisms of range contractions in bumblebees” addressed exciting upcoming plans for her first Mount Rainier field season. In Madeleine’s talk" “Impacts of tree encroachment on meadow plants and pollinators”, she presented some compelling preliminary results!
The Lab received a new grant from the OneHive Foundation supporting the expansion of the MeadoWatch program to include pollinator monitoring! In addition to plant phenology data, volunteers of the program will now be able to observe and collect data on plant-pollinator interactions at Mt Rainier National Park. We will be recruiting a cohort of volunteers to test out our new protocol in 2025. Follow us on instagram @meadowatch for more updates!
This year the MeadoWatch program had an incredibly successful season with volunteer hours doubling since last year! As a small token of appreciation for our amazing volunteers, the lab got together to write and mail out some holiday cards. If you volunteered for MeadoWatch this season, thank you so much (and keep an eye on your mailbox!)
